About the garment

This vibrant, whimsical work of art is a beacon of creativity and connection across galaxies. Erna Van Der Wat, Auckland based designer, collaborated with her mother, Joanne Van Wyk (82), and her mother-in-law, Lena Van Der Wat (87), who both reside in South Africa. Despite being on opposite sides of the planet, they worked together to craft this creature.

BLOOMING PROOF! challenges conventional notions of life beyond Earth whilst demonstrating the boundless imagination and playful activism of its creators. Through the unconventional medium of yarn bombing, they've transformed the cold, barren landscapes of distant planets into kaleidoscopes of colour and personality. Blooming Proof! celebrates the spirit of creativity without boundaries, where age and distance dissolve in the shared joy of creation.
